CCPDs - collaborations

HV2FEI4_detector.png
A possible structure of the pixel detector for sLHC.

We are developing CCPD sensors since 2007. The proof-of-concept stage of the development was supported by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and by LS Peter Fischer.

Especially at CERN the SDA/CCPD detectors represents an interesting option for sLHC upgrades or CLIC detector readout. SDA technology is interesting because of its high radiation tolerance and low cost. The CCPD technology allows to fully exploit the advantages of SDA detectors offer while being able to use the existing readout ICs.

In the case of ATLAS upgrade, FEI4 chip can be used and in the case of CLIC, TimePix ASIC. The development for LHC detectors is conducted in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University of Bonn, CERN and CPPM Marseille.

CCPDs - overview of the results

The results of the CCPD development have been presented in three reviewed papers, one proceeding paper and in four international conference and workshop talks.

Proof-of-concept period

We have designed three detector prototypes in 350nm AMS HV-technology. We measure an excellent signal-to-noise ratio of up to 60 with radioactive beta sources. We have tested two mechanical concepts: 1) with both chips wire-bonded to printed circuit boards and 2) with the sensor chip providing power for the readout chip using a few bumps.

Development for ATLAS and CLIC

We have designed a sensor prototype in 180nm AMS HV-technology. The sensor can be used as a segmented strip detector and as a sensor for a CCPD.
